Yap: Coaching system is fine

NATIONAL coach Yap Kim Hock has reiterated that there are no misunderstandings within the BA of Malaysia's elite team coaches.

In fact, Kim Hock said he remains hopeful that National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Zolkples Embong will reveal the name of the coach or coaches who claimed there are problems in the coaching set-up.

“It is best that Zolkples meets with BAM president Datuk Nadzmi Mohd Salleh to explain.” said Kim Hock after chairing the coaches monthly meeting in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

“I don't want to make any speculations or say anything more at this stage because I was not even informed that (singles player) Lee Chong Wei and (men's doubles coach) Rexy Mainaky would be meeting Zolkples.”

Zolkples met with Chong Wei and Rexy separately on Thursday and later told the Press about the alleged problem.

However, the elite coaches - singles coaches Misbun Sidek and Wong Tat Meng, women's doubles coach Cheah Soon Kit, Rexy and Kim Hock denied there were problems.

“I must say we have a fantastic coaching team as all the coaches are committed and dedicated. Whatever differences (we have) are thrashed out at meetings and we carry on doing our job,” added Kim Hock.

“One of the reasons why we have been doing well is because of three elements.

“The first is coaching, which we have the best. The second is talented players and the third, which we are still working on because the players are of different characters, is unity.”

Kim Hock also dispelled the notion that Rexy, who also handles the mixed doubles players, has too much on his plate.

“We are merely capitalising on Rexy's strength as he handled the mixed doubles pairs in Indonesia and England.

“Rexy has also tailored his working strategy and is now concentrating more on the pairs who are seeking Olympic qualification.

“So I don't think he has too much on his plate. He is a world class coach and I am positive he is handling it very well.”
