Vietnam will be the host of the qualifying round of the Thomas and Uber Cup in Asia.

Le Thanh Sang, general secretary of the Vietnam Badminton Federation, said that the Asia Badminton Federation had officially allowed Vietnam to host the event.

The cost for the organising the tournament was estimated at US$50,000. The Robot Company will be the sponsor for the event.

Nguyen Minh Phuong, director of the company said: "This is not a small amount, but we will sponsor the tournament. Vietnam should host the event to raise the sport to a new height."

The qualifying round will take place from February 19-24, 2008 with 30 men's teams and 20 women's teams.
