Umer Zeeshan enters semis of Int’l Ranking Badminton
 

Umer Zeeshan of Pakistan reached the semi final of men’s singles by beating Sri Lankan Dinuka Karunaretne 10-21, 21-13 and 21-18 in the International Ranking Badminton Tournament at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex, on Monday. Another Pakistani Hashir Bashir upset Mehrabi Keveh of Iran by 13-21, 21-17, 21-17 while Arvind Bhat of India upset Richard Vaughan of Wales, world ranked 29 and No. 1 seed in this biggest international tournament todate in Pakistan, by 21-16/21-17. In the quarter final subsequently, Arvind Bhat defeated Diluka Karunaretne of Sri Lanka by 21-16/21-13.

In Men’s Doubles Amir Islam & Imran Mohib of Pakistan beat Pankaj Chand & Mehatma Indra of Nepal by 21-10/21-10. Kashif & Waqas Ahmed of Pakistan overcame Irfan & Jalil Waiz of Afghanistan by 21-6/21-5.

Ashraf Masih & Atif Nadeem of Pakistan knocked out Irfan & Rizwan of Pakistan by 21-16/21-19 and Zohaib Qamar & Pervez Nabeel of Pakistan beat Ijaz & Hashir Bashir of Pakistan by 22-20/17-21/21-19.

In the Women’s Singles matches, Tvrdy Maja of Slovenia beat Renu Chandrika of Sri Lanka by 21-9/21-17 while Kersnik Maja of Slovenia downed Jwala Gutta of India by 21-16/21-16.
