Doubles pairing Watson Briggs and Imogen Bankier inspired Scotland to a 3-0 win over the United States at the World Team Badminton Championships in Glasgow.
The Division Three play-off win at the Scotstoun International Arena meant the Scots finished the tournament in 19th place – two places higher than their final placing at the 2005 event in Beijing.

Briggs and Bankier got Scotland off to a flier by defeating Khan Bob Malaythong and Mesinee Mangkalakiri 21-11 24-22.
This was followed by Craig Goddard's 21-15 21-12 mens' singles victory over Nicholas Jinadasa and Susan Hughes' 21-8 21-15 defeat of Eva Lee in the womens' singles.
Afterwards, Scotland coach Dan Travers praised the efforts of his team, who won three matches out of four during the whole event.
He said: "For me, the mixed doubles match was one of the best memories I have ever experienced as a coach.
"It had everything: emotion, the noise of the crowd and fantastic play. It was a joy to be associated with that match.
"It also showed us how close we came to defeating India. We took three games into three sets but our inexperience and lack of fitness showed from being a young team.
"However, we have got a nucleus that in two years time will expect us to contend for promotion.
"Every player that was here this week will have a chance of making the team, but with a number of juniors beating on the door we will have a large number to select from.
"That's a nice dilemma to have."
China won the tournament for the second time in a row after a 3-0 final victory over Indonesia. China, who beat Indonesia by the same margin in the 2005 final, have now won six out of the last seven World Team Badminton Championships.
