Crack duo set for Super time again

IT has been seven months since World No 1 men's badminton doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong last won a Super Series title but going by their good record in Europe, they should end their dry run soon.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong have not won a Super Series title since their back-to-back All England and Swiss Open triumphs in March.

National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky feels that Europe will be a good hunting ground again for the Malaysian pair.

Kien Keat has also been successful in Europe with a different partner in Chan Chong Ming, bagging the 2005 Denmark Open and 2006 Swiss Open

Now, Kien Keat and Boon Heong look a good bet to win the Denmark Open in Odense on Oct 23-28 and also the French Open in Paris on Oct 30-Nov 4.

Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah, the other Malaysian pair competing in the two Super series events, also look capable of mounting a strong challenge.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong are in good form, having won the recent Macau Open and elevating themselves to the World No 1 ranking for the first time.

"They must now re-group their energy and start aiming for more titles," said Rexy.

"They haven't won a Super Series title since March, and the Denmark Open provides them with an opportunity to do so.

"It's always better to do well in the first tournament (Denmark Open) and this will put them in confident mood for the French Open.

"Kien Keat's fine record in Europe can be an advantage but more importantly, they should have the hunger to keep winning.

"If Tan Fook-Wan Wah can also do well as they did in Macau, it will be a confidence booster for them."

Tan Fook-Wan Wah defeated former world champions Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun of China to set up an all-Malaysia final against Kien Keat-Boon Heong in Macau.

If Kien Keat-Boon Heong are successful in Denmark, it will be their fourth Super Series title as they have also won the Malaysia Open in January.
