Malaysia’s Koo and Tan Prevent China Clean Sweep

The heroes of the day were Malaysia’s Koo and Tan who not only prevented China from sweeping the tournament, but also won the first men’s doubles title for Malaysia at this event since the Sidek brothers won back in 1982. Koo and Tan defeated World Champions Cai and Fu 21-15, 21-18.

The mixed doubles was well contested by Clark and Kellogg, but they could not stop Gao and Zheng. The Chinese pair won 16-21, 21-18, 21-14 and Gao Ling won her second All England mixed doubles title in a row.

Xie Xingfang cemented her place as the world’s top ranked player when she trounced Pi Hongyan 21-6, 21-13. Her boyfriend, Lin Dan, also won his final easily defeating his teammate Chen Yu 21-13, 21-12. Finally in the women’s doubles it was Wei and Zhang winning in three games against Yang and Zhang 21-16, 8-21, 24-22 to take the women’s doubles title.

This year’s All England Open will certainly be remembered for the dominance of China, unless of course next year they win all five.
